Tibetan “Vajra Dorje” Beaded Necklace
The Vajra Dorje to the Buddhist contains both a diamond (here the base shape) and the lightning bolt (represented by the coral set into the base). The diamond represents indestructibility while the lightning bolt an irresistible force. The broad, exquisite, diamond-shaped base is beautifully wrought silver with carved energy swirls. Set directly into the base are four triangular pieces of turquoise flanked by four blade shaped pieces of coral (the lightning bolts). In the center of the pendant is a circle filled with eight coral pieces surrounding a large raised silver setting topped with a round turquoise stone. Contiguous with the upper two edges of the pendant are ten silver beads supporting ten coral barrel beads. From these beads proceed ten strands of tiny turquoise barrel-shaped beads interspersed with random coral pieces of various shapes and larger silver beads each stamped with a central design. The necklace culminates in two large turquoise beads, a black cord which is looped over a round turquoise bead to close. This is an amazing piece of hand craftsmanship.
