Sozni is one of the most intricate of all the Pashmina embroideries. Accomplished with a tiny needle by only the most deft fingers, the best Sozni is reversible — embroidered in a manner that renders each stitch the same above and below, making it nearly impossible to distinguish the back of the shawl from the front.
These exquisite creations are rarely available outside of Kashmir. Relegated to a dying art due to the desire for cheap goods by machine fabrication, we acknowledge and affirm that these arts and handwork are extremely valuable. These are fairly traded (fair trade) items. It takes monts to create a single shawl, so two to three shawls a year must be purchased for a price great enough to reward the artist for his or her incredible craftsmanship in a sustainable manner.
